Plantation Shutters in an Ocean Isle Beach, NC Coastal Home

Project Overview

This Ocean Isle Beach home featured large windows that allowed in plenty of natural light—but the homeowner needed a better solution for managing sunlight, privacy and heat.  It was also important that the new plantation shutters closely match several existing shutters already installed in the home.

We designed, manufactured, delivered and installed custom plantation shutters to complement the home’s coastal style while meeting the homeowner's needs for each room:​

• Bedrooms (East- and West-facing)

  • light and heat control

  • privacy

• kitchen (West-facing)

  • light & heat control for comfort while working

• living room (East- and South-facing)

  • light control to reduce glare on the tv

Shutter Details

For this project, we installed:

• 3½-inch wide louvers for a balanced, classic look

• Ultra-View design (no visible center rod) for a clean appearance

• Bright white finish to match the interior

• inside mount to highlight the window trim

• hybrid construction COMBINES A SOLID WOOD FRAME WITH POLY LOUVERS FOR A PREMIUM APPEARANCE AND EXCELLENT RESISTANCE TO HUMIDITY, SALT AIR AND UV EXPOSURE

The Result

The completed installation addressed the homeowner's needs throughout the house while closely matching the plantation shutters that were already in place.

• In the east- and west-facing bedrooms, the adjustable louvers give the homeowner greater control over sunlight and privacy throughout the day—allowing them to finally sleep later than 6 a.m.

• In the west-facing kitchen, the shutters help manage afternoon sunlight while allowing the homeowner to adjust the amount of natural light entering the room.

• In the east- and south-facing living room, the homeowner especially appreciated finally being able to see their TV in the morning without the annoying glare they experienced before the shutters were installed.

• Throughout the home, the new shutters complement the existing window treatments, creating a consistent appearance from room to room.
