The Challenge

This Sandpiper Bay home in Sunset Beach, NC was especially meaningful to its new owner. After overcoming a significant health challenge, they decided it was time to stop "putting off happiness." They purchased their dream beach home and began transforming it into a place that felt truly their own.

The existing window treatments were in poor condition, and several no longer worked properly. They also left the home feeling dark and uninviting. The homeowner wanted a brighter, more comfortable environment that felt open and "alive."

In the main living areas and guest bedrooms, the homeowner wanted plantation shutters with a more traditional appearance. In the primary bedroom, motorized blackout shades offered convenient operation along with greater privacy and light control.

The goal was to create a cleaner, brighter and more timeless interior while improving privacy and light control—without sacrificing the beautiful golf-course views that make this Sandpiper Bay home special.

The specific requirements of this project were as follows:

• The classic coastal look of plantation shutters in the living room, dining room and guest bedrooms
• Motorized blackout roller shades in the primary bedroom for complete light control and convenient operation from bed
• Plantation shutters on the door leading to the porch for a consistent look throughout the home
• Durable, easy-to-clean window treatments requiring minimal maintenance

Finding a solution that balanced beauty, functionality and durability was the highest priority.

After considering several options, the homeowner chose a combination of plantation shutters and motorized roller shades. Plantation shutters provided the timeless appearance and durability they wanted throughout the main living areas and guest bedrooms, while motorized blackout shades gave the primary bedroom the darkness, privacy and push-button convenience they were looking for.

• 3-INCH FLAT FABRIC-WRAPPED CASSETTES conceal the roller mechanism for a clean, tailored appearance
• BLACKOUT FABRIC provides the darkness and privacy needed to create a comfortable sleeping environment
• LONDON 1901 FABRIC offers the natural appearance of woven linen with the durability and easy care of 100% polyester
• MOTORIZED OPERATION allows the homeowner to raise and lower the shades from bed at the touch of a button
