the challenge

This Supply, NC home required several different window-treatment solutions because the homeowner's needs varied significantly from the front of the home to the bedrooms, dining room and large sunroom that serves as the primary gathering spot during football season.  For this Brunswick County homeowner, the goal was to create a cleaner, brighter, more timeless look while improving privacy and light control without sacrificing the beautiful views that make coastal North Carolina so special.

The specific requirements of this job presented a unique challenge:

• The classic coastal look of plantation shutters for the front of the home

• darkness in the bedrooms ideal for sleeping

• a combination of privacy and semi-opaque light control for the dining room & bathrooms

• light control in the sunroom where the ceiling is so high that manual control is impractical - very important during football season when the sun comes in during the late afternoon.​

Finding a solution that balanced beauty, functionality, and durability was the highest priority. 

 

After thoroughly considering several options, the homeowner chose a combination of plantation shutters, roller shades and motorized shades.  They chose plantation shutters for the front of their home because of their classic appearance, exceptional durability, and ability to complement virtually any style of home.  roller shades were selected for the rear of their home, allowing the homeowners to use blackout fabrics in their bedrooms and motorized solar shades  in their sunroom.

• 3" flat fabric-covered cassettes for a clean, tailored look

• soft-touch cordless operation in the dining room, bedrooms and bathrooms for effortless, elegant control

• semi-opaque fabrics in the dining room and bathrooms provide privacy while still allowing soft light

• blackout fabrics in the bedrooms allowed the homeowner to create their ideal sleeping environment

• London 1904 fabric is light, natural and organic; combining the impression of woven wood with the practicality and ease of use of a 100% polyester material.

• Motorized solar shades in the sunroom allow the customer to conveniently raise & lower the shades from anywhere in the home at the touch of a button.​

We measured every opening individually so each shutter and shade could be built for the dimensions, trim and mounting conditions of that specific window.

using a combination of shades and shutters allowed the customer to customize each area of their home for its specific needs.  Plantation shutters with 3½-inch louvers in the front provide a classic yet modern appearance.  A combination of light-filtering and blackout roller shades on the back and sides of the home provide privacy, light control and an ideal sleeping environment in the bedrooms.  Motorized shades in the sunroom provide convenient light control without the need to leave your seat - especially useful during football season.
